Alhaj AKM Saiquatul Islam was born in 1923 in a noble family of Pabna district. His student life began at Radha Nagar Majumdar Academy adjacent to Pabna Edward College. He passed matriculation from that school in 1942 and took admission in intermediate at Pabna Edward College. After passing his intermediate in 1944, he moved to Calcutta, when World War II was going on. Because of the war, the financial and political situation of the country was very bad. To maintain the food security and governance of the country, the government then provided A.R.P, Civil Supply, Calcutta Rationing and National Guard etc.

At that time Hussain Shahid Sahardi Shaheb was the minister in charge of Civil Supply Department and Al Mahmud MP of Pabna Sirajganj was the secretary of MP. With their help, many Muslim students and people got government job opportunities. At that time he joined the Civil Supply Department as a Sub Inspector on the advice and encouragement of Mr. Al Mahmud Saheb and after training was posted at Balisai, Bamnagar Police Station, Kantai Sub-division, Midnipur District.

After partition in 1947, he joined the Pakistan Civil Supplies Department. He works in different districts of the country due to government jobs. From the time he was in government service, he was attracted to business and was taking initiatives to do business at various times. Finally, in 1975, with the encouragement and initiative of his children, he left the government job and focused on self- employment and took over as Chairman of Eastern Group of Companies. Due to honesty and devotion and by the immense mercy of Almighty Allah, he prospered without any help.

As a businessman, he also associated himself with various public welfare organizations. He has been involved with Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited since its inception and held the position of Alternate Director of the Bank as Managing Director of Baitush Sharaf Foundation Limited. Later, he became the venture director of another Islamic bank named Social Investment Bank Limited and was the president of the management and finance committee of this Bank. Apart from this, he was associated with many social welfare institutions in Pabna and Ishradi. He was the vice-president of Anjumane Ittehad Bangladesh and the Director of Bangladesh Peace Foundation.

He established Schools, Madrasas and Mosques in Ishwardi. He was the leader of a social welfare institution called Islam Welfare Trust. In 1998, the Pabna Samiti of Dhaka awarded him with the "Pabna Padak" in recognition of his social welfare activities.
