Mr. A.K.M. Shafiul Islam, is one of the Founder Director of Eastern Overseas Shipping Lines LTD. He is a man of high value & dignity could be an Icon in the business world of Bangladesh. He comes from a respectable Muslim family of Iswardi, Pabna. He has shown how determination, hard work, honesty and professionalism can change a small entrepreneur to a Leader of Multipurpose Business having diversified business port folio. The diversified port folio business helps to minimize and balance risk coverage in the business. During his study period, he has started his business at Chittagong named Islam Electric & Engineering Works in 1970 which heralded the sign of to-day’s achievements. Later, the business was transformed into a family business when his elder brother Mr. A.K.M. Shahidul Islam, a Marine Engineer by profession joined the business and launched a shipping company named Eastern Overseas Shipping Lines Limited. In 1972, Mr. A.K.M. Shafiul Islam along with his family members started shipping business in Chittagong with other activities like Cargo Surveyor, Clearing Forwarding and Stevedoring etc. under the banner of Eastern Overseas Shipping Lines Limited, Eastern Overseas Logistics Limited, Eastern Inspection & Testing Co. Limited and Eastern Logistics Limited.
Mr. Islam received his training in 1975 as Inspection personnel of Life Raft UK and surveyed and inspected Life Raft & other life savings equipments which are available in every ocean going ship. He attended many international refreshers’ course on behalf of Eastern Inspection & Testing Company Limited. Familiar with all the international sea-ports, Mr. Islam is widely overseas travelled person. His business obliged him to visit many sea-ports on behalf of Eastern Overseas Shipping Lines Limited, which was the sole agent of Malaysia International Shipping Corporation Berhad (MISC Berhad, a Malaysian Government Organization) for more than 20 years in Bangladesh.
He was appointed as the Managing Director of the company from 2020
